Indie Memphis Film Festival 2019 is now in progress, having started on the 30th of October and going through to the 4th, with encore screenings on the 5th and 6th of November. The festival exists to create community through independent film and support the development of indie filmmakers through events like the 2nd Black Creators Forum.
Memphis native Ira Sachs will be in attendance for his feature Frankie. It’s a homecoming for the acclaimed director. Additionally, there will be a retrospective of the films of renowned director Sara Driver.
As if that wasn’t cool enough already, Jim Jarmusch will be present for screenings of The Dead Don’t Die and Mystery Train.
The closing night film will be Destin Daniel Cretton’s Just Mercy which stars Brie Larson, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Tim Blake Nelson and more.
Films screening at the festival includes: Clemency, The Dead Don’t Die, De Lo Mio, The Follower, Guaxuma, Jezebel, Lil’ Buck: Real Swan, Lucky Grandma, Memphis ’69.
Please stop by the festival if you’re in town. There’s so much more that I didn’t mention at the festival’s website. Support indie film and check out the 22nd year of this immersive, well-curated festival!
