Before his untimely death at age 54 on March 13, 1996, Krzysztof Kieslowski created a body of work that is both revered by fellow filmmakers and adored by movie fans. He is best-known for the “Three Colors” trilogy of “Blue” (1993), “Red” (Oscar nominee, 1994) and “White (1994). His ten-film series, the “Decalogue,” was originally aired on Polish television between 1988 and 1989. It was after capturing the attention of European and American audiences that the Ten Commandment-based stories went on to seal Kieslowski’s reputation of one of the greatest directors of our time.
The Academy, in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Museum of Modern Art (LACMA), will be presenting the films of Kieslowski in a special screening series, which begins [ Thursday, September 21st ] and runs until [ September 30th. ] His major works will be shown, along with early student films and shorts.
