In Rob Federic and Carroll Brown’s short, The Seance, there may be a reason that there is only one way to cross to the other side. A group of acquaintances approaches a dark and mysterious home: the Writer (Marcus DeAnda), the Magician (Evan Faunce), and the Widow (Jrancina Juncaj). The dilapidated home belongs to Madam Ena (Mia Caporale), and she is the medium who will bring the group to their recently deceased loved ones. The price is only a few pieces of silver.

As the seance begins, each person presents an item of significance about their loved one. All goes well until the Widow presents her husband’s military medal. Madam Ena screams, warning them there is great danger when a loved one dies violently. The Writer demands Madame Ena continue, and she does so at their own peril.

“…she is the medium who will bring the group to their recently deceased loved ones.”

The Seance is a masterfully crafted suspense horror. Its style feels like a creepy tale out of Edgar Allan Poe. It’s best to watch this one in the dark with the sound cranked up. The story is simple and effective, especially when conjuring the not-so-sweet spirits from the netherworld. Mia Caporale is particularly eerie as our spirit guide, Madam Ena.

The performances, tone, and cinematography of The Seance blend beautifully together for an experience you’ll never forget.
