Totally. You guys captured that in the film really well, I think. I wanted to ask you guys how you got hooked up with Julia Fox and Peter Vack because I love both of them. You know, obviously, Julia was in Uncut Gems, and I really liked Peter in Love Life and other things. I just want to know how y’all connected.
Hozie: Peter was in a short film Oliver directed in when was that, 2014 maybe?

David: Yeah, 2014, 2015. This is where Ben and I met as well. I met Peter about a year before that. We were at a friend’s house in Brooklyn, it was like a little show-and-tell for adults. I was giving a lecture on the aesthetics of conspiracy theories.

Oh whoah, cool.

David: Peter was showing a short film he had done that made SXSW. We sort of became friends. He did my short film where I met Ben. He was the only person dumb enough to say, “Oh yeah, I’ll produce your film for free, sure!”

What’s the name of it?
David: That film’s called Lucy Now Dreams Herself. It’s floating around on my website somewhere if you want to see it.

“What I found out about cam sites is it’s the same thing as directing.”

Yes, I want to check that out!

Hozie: I was the assistant director but really I was Oliver’s driver. Being British, he didn’t know how to drive in New York so I was pretty much driving the U-Haul around.

I’m from the United States, I’ve lived here forever and I can’t drive in New York, so it takes a special type of talent.
David: I think my main ambition for the next film that Ben and I do is that Ben doesn’t have to drive the van. That would be great.

Yeah! Put the driver as the first item in the budget.
Hozie: I’m trying to think of how I met Julia. I met Julia through her agent, I guess because I really wanted Buddy Duress to do the movie and had hung out with him in Queens at his parents’ house. Then I had to talk to his agent a little bit and he was like, “Oh, you’ve gotta meet this girl Julia because she’s never been in anything!” This was pre-Uncut Gems. She used to be a dominatrix, actually, when she was younger. She could bring some realness to it. He mentioned the Safdie Brothers. He said, “She’s friends with them and is likely to be in one of their movies.” So I was like, “Wow, cool, I’d love to meet this person.” Julia and I met up for a beer or something. She was really cool. I was like, “Tell me what I got wrong about dominatrix stuff and she was like, “I don’t know, seems fine to me.”
