Featuring Student Life: 7 Films That Get It Right

By Film Threat Staff | March 10, 2021

Have you ever watched a movie and thought ‘yes that is exactly what happens?’ Unquestionably, the most appealing films are the ones we can all relate to. Especially the ones that remind us of our school days. Getting assignments done, taking tests and looking to find your paper writer on WritePaper , are just some of the things school reminds us of. So might you have an idea of some of those movies that hit the nail on the head?

Do not overthink it; here is a list for you. If you have not watched any, please do.

Dazed and Сonfused

High school kids sometimes get into trouble with drugs, sex, and alcohol. This movie portrayed accurate imagery of how things go down. The film was spot-on set in the rock and roll era with the big fros, oversized clothing, and other fashion trends of 1976.

The movie follows teenagers in Austin Texas as they start their summer vacation. The norm was to get drunk, high, and sexual, which did happen. The music they were fond of was also spot on, and the vibe was accurate. From the movie, as sad as it may be, the reality is that kids of that age acted just as the film showed. These vices were not only a thing they did, but most teenagers took it as a right of passage. Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, and Mathew McConaughey starred in this motion picture.

Superbad

This one will make you nostalgic and give you a good laugh. The team features Seth Rogan, Emma Stone, Evan Goldberg, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, to mention a few. The fact that Rogan and Goldberg wrote this movie while they were back in high school makes it even more relatable.

In the plot, Christopher is a geek highschooler who just wants to fit in. And as it often happens, the popular kids took advantage of this. Chris had a 25-year old guy’s ID with the name McLovin and they used this to their advantage. He attempted to use the ID to buy them alcohol to throw a party to have their dream of impressing hot girls by having booze at the party they planned. See the movie to find out what happens!

Love and Basketball

LOVE AND BASKETBALL, Omar Epps, Sanaa Lathan, 2000, (c)New Line Cinema/courtesy Everett Collection

Gina Prince-Bythewood, the writer and director of this motion picture, showed the real trials and tribulations of high school sports talented individuals. The protagonists in this film were Monica and Quincy played by Sanaa Lathan and Omar Epps respectively.

The two loved basketball from a tender age in their lives, but they realized that they were fond of each other just as much. The setting is laid out both in high school and even shortly after showing the life of basketball players all over America, and what they face in and out of the court. It is witty, lovely, and entertaining all in one.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Logan Lerman, who plays Charlie, was a high school freshman who was disturbed by the misfortunes of his best friend committing suicide and memories from his not-so-clear childhood. He becomes friends with some out-of-the-ordinary kids Sam, a Hogwarts fanatic, and Patrick, a gay teenager. Emma Watson plays Sam, and Ezra Milar played Patrick.

The group is truly a weird pack and the movie shows what truly happens to such kids in reality. The film is genuinely relatable showing all the adolescent drama of first kisses and the happy memorable things in between.

Mean Girls

In high school, we all know that students always gravitate to form cliques to feel like they belong. This movie portrayed that in the most real and most relatable way possible. We have the geeks, the Asians, Blacks and the mean popular girls, referred to as the plastics who torment and bully anyone that gets in their way.

Lindsay Lohan plays Cady Heron, who just moved to the US from Africa and joined this public high school in Chicago. With the culture shock and arriving at the school, she wants to fit in right away, and luckily, a punkish girl Janis, played by Lizzy Caplan and Damian (Daniel Franzese) take her under their wing.

Well, that did not last long as the plastics took up Cady as their project to prove they can make anyone look good. So the movie is a roller coaster of showing how high school girls try as hard as they can to be part of the popular group, sometimes masking their true identity.

Accepted

It is always frustrating to most teenagers making the transition from high school to college and university. As a matter of fact, most high schoolers miss the mark and get rejected by all the schools they apply to. This was the story of Bartleby and his pals who after rejection decided to create a fictional college for themselves. They named it South Harmon Institute of Technology.

Their newly found colleague’s curriculum was not conventional in any way but focused on the students’ heart desires. Despite this film not being the photocopy of how campus life is, it teaches us indirectly that we learn more than just the educational parts of life in college. You learn life skills, social norms, lifestyle decisions, and so much more.

Monster University

This last movie is an animated motion picture, but the lessons and experiences throughout the film were spot-on and related to real life. The movie is centered around roommates who make a big part of undergraduate life in the university. Roommates are that part of a university that you have to adapt to whether you like it or not. Mike and Sully were roommates in this movie showing that you have to be together through thick and thin.

Movies that give us that feeling that we can relate to what is happening on the screen to actual scenarios are phenomenal. The above creative pieces did just that. We go to school to learn, and as seen, we not only understand what is in the books but life in general.
