WILLEM DAFOE: MONSTROUS KINKY

By Chris Gore | October 7, 2002

Willem Dafoe doesn’t need any damn silly mask to play a creep. So now that he’s done chasing Spider-Man around, Dafoe is back to his old creepy self as John Carpenter, not the filmmaker, but the guy who was tried for the murder of “Hogan’s Heroes” star Bob Crane and acquitted.

Paul Schrader’s Auto Focus exposes the sexual exploits of Bob Crane and his video technician friend John Carpenter as they picked up girls and made their own dirty movies. Some believe this bizarre friendship led to Crane’s death, but we’ll never know for sure.

We caught up with Willem Dafoe to discuss John and Bob’s kinky ways in Auto Focus, as well as life after the blockbuster success of Spider-Man.
