WHY "CRYSTAL SKULL" WILL WAIT ON MY MONEY…

By Admin | May 17, 2008

As everyone knows, I’m a hardcore Spielberg fan. But after an interview with George Lucas, “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” has transformed from my top pick for the year to my second to last.

“I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this,” Lucas said. “But I have an idea to make Shia the lead character next time and have Harrison come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.”

I can’t. In fact I think it stinks. Let’s face it, Shia Lebeouf is the flavor of the month, here. Why the hell would you entrust the series on a guy who is the last person I’d want as an action hero? It’s bad enough we have to believe he’s a greaser/biker.

If I’m going to pay almost twenty five dollars to see “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” I want to see an Indiana Jones movie. Knowing Lucas I can definitely see this being a movie that slowly and subtly phases out Indy and introduces Shia attempting to win over audiences to ease us in to the next movie where it’s all Shia all the time. Won’t tweens be happy?

“But Felix, Ford is not an action hero anymore. Did you see “Firewall”?”

Yes yes, we all saw “Firewall,” and we all saw how awful it was, let it go. If you’re going to make an “Indiana Jones” movie, do it with Ford, or end the f*****g series. Period.

I want Indiana Jones, I don’t want his son, his sidekick, his daughter, or his step brother. Either branch it off into another series altogether, or end it. Stop being such a creative cesspool Lucas.

Sorry Spielberg, but until the word of mouth comes in loud and clear, my money will stay with me, and I’ll await the DVD release. Maybe.

“Shia is not a “flavor of the month”.”

Well, we’ll have to see about that. People argued that John Heder wasn’t a one trick pony and look how that turned out.

“So your NOT going to see the fourth Indiana Jones movie in theaters just because of some crap Lucas said in an interview?? That’s smart.”

Probably, and yes, I think it’s smart. But Pete confirmed it’s not the case, so I may reconsider.

“Im sure they will miss your $25.00 (where the f**k are you paying $25 to see a movie anyways).”

Actually, 10 for the ticket, and 7 on taxi coming and going.

“Your a big Indy fan? Well then NOT experiencing the first Indy film in 19 years in theaters is stupid.”

I’m a HUGE Indy fan. Nah, you know what’s stupid? Investing in Galvanized oil. Man there’s fifty bucks I’ll never see again.

  2. CKY Nate says:

Shia is not a “flavor of the month”. I hate to say it, but like him or not, we all know he’s here to stay. He’s actually a really good actor.

So your NOT going to see the fourth Indiana Jones movie in theaters just because of some crap Lucas said in an interview?? That’s smart. Im sure they will miss your $25.00 (where the f**k are you paying $25 to see a movie anyways).

Wiether or not the movie is any good is up to you to decide. But I guess you can’t say s**t about it to anybody for 6 months until the DVD comes out. Your a big Indy fan? Well then NOT experiencing the first Indy film in 19 years in theaters is stupid. It’s YOUR loss my friend. Not Lucas or Spielberg’s.

  3. Josh says:

If Lucas does get what he wants it will only prove that he’s been an imbecil for years. People on Rottentomatoes keep acting like he’s the patron saint of all that is holy in film: and lets face it: he was-in the 80’s.

This is now, and now it’s clear that he’s stopped thinking about art and started focusing on $. He is clearly out of touch with what fans want: success in fan-pleasing is purely coincidental.

  4. Jeremy Knox says:

I will admit that a teeny tiny part of me thought it would have been awesome if Lucas had set the new Indy film in 1962, and had the main characters of Crystal Skull pass through a “scene” from American Graffiti. Still, I don’t think I’ll be dissapointed. I’ve always had an affection for the Indianna Jones films.

  5. Felix Vasquez Jr. says:

Then I’m wondering what Lucas has planned, because if not this movie, then the next movie definitely may be intentionally phasing out Ford.

  6. Pete Vonder Haar says:

I can definitely see this being a movie that slowly and subtly phases out Indy and introduces Shia attempting to win over audiences to ease us in to the next movie where it’s all Shia all the time.

That doesn’t happen. In fact, in the final scene it’s made abundantly clear they have no intention of passing the torch to LaBeouf.

  7. Steve says:

Shocked, I’m whocked that Lucas didn’t seek out your opinion beofre deciding the future of his franchise!

  8. Felix Vasquez Jr. says:

But the notion that he’s planning this and hasn’t told Ford or Spielberg make me think he’s the mastermind behind this. I AM expressing bias, of course. I admit.

I’m also waiting for “The Dark Knight” and “Hellboy 2.”

  9. Nathaniel says:

Yes,Lucas has most likely sucked the life out of this series, however he is not the only one to blame. Stevens Spielberg’s eyes light up whenever he talks about Shia Lebeouf. I think I’m going to save my money for “The Dark Knight” and hope it’s not horrible.

  10. Barry says:

I don’t think Spielberg would make an Indiana Jones movie like that. He loves these movies as much as the fans. Spielberg hasn’t disappointed when it comes to his iconic films and characters. I don’t see this being Shia’s movie, nor do I think this is a movie that pushes him on us. I see him as the ‘Short Round’ of the movie. Nothing more. Quite frankly, I don’t see why anyone would care what plans Lucas has, or what he sees in an interview. You have to see the movie!. I got my tickets for the first showing on Thursday. Can’t wait.
