WHOA

By Merle Bertrand | February 6, 2002

The only thing worse than looking just like someone else is when that someone else has a group of punks hanging around, waiting to beat the crap out of him. Such is the situation for the young protagonist in director Maurice A. Dwyer’s bittersweet bleak comedy “WHOA.” This is a simple film, really; the whole short essentially consisting of one big chase scene through a gritty urban neighborhood, followed by its brutal surprise ending. Neither spectacular nor astounding, “WHOA” nonetheless tells its one punch line, if you’ll pardon the expression, story in an effective and engaging manner.
