THE RETURN OF “REN & STIMPY”?

By Film Threat Staff | June 10, 2002

Best friends Ren and Stimpy may soon get a shot at sharing their special blend of friendship and violence a full 11 years after their television debut on “The Ren & Stimpy Show.” A report at TVinsite suggests that the show’s second-coming could be on the horizon:
TNN: The National Network is negotiating a deal to put “The Ren & Stimpy Show” back into original production, with creator John Kricfalusi back in charge.
A network spokesperson confirmed the effort to revive Ren & Stimpy 11 years after its premiere on sister Viacom Inc. channel Nickelodeon.
Under Kricfalusi and his Spumco production team, Ren became a high-rated Nick favorite, grabbing enough adult viewers to warrant replays on MTV: Music Television. But Nickelodeon fired Kricfalusi from the show midway in its second season over content directions and late delivery of episodes.
Earlier this spring, TNN picked up “Ren & Stimpy” reruns for use in a primetime animation block coming in early 2003.
The spokesperson declined comment on the status of negotiations.

Film Threat will post the latest “Ren & Stimpy” news as it surfaces. For more on the dynamic duo, a great place to start is the Spumco “Ren & Stimpy” Archive. You’ll find an episode guide, the touching history of the team and much more.
