THE OSCAR JINX STALKS HOLLYWOOD

For the acting profession, winning an Academy Award is the ultimate career achievement. Yet as with the conquest of any pinnacle, there is the ultimate dilemma: either you stay at the top of your profession or you work your way down from the dizzy heights of stardom.

A surprisingly high number of actors, both major stars and quirky specialty performers, have seen their careers violently fizzle after winning the Academy Award. Indeed, the Oscar Jinx has claimed many high-powered actors who found their star status acutely diminished in their post-Oscar years, while many up-and-coming performers wound up with stalled careers after taking the golden statuette home.

Consider the wide range of Oscar Jinx calamities. Indeed, this curse literally began with the first Oscar ceremony!
