South by Southwest has announced the first-ever South by South Web (SXSWeb) Media Festival. Combining all aspects of the South by Southwest Film, Interactive, and Music Festivals you hear about on this website every March, SXSWeb is a brand-new event dedicated to showcasing media on the world wide web. It’s an online festival and a chance for video artists and filmmakers to get some exposure on the popular SXSW website.
“SXSWeb has everything to do with SXSW, and yet nothing to do with SXSW. At SXSW, we’re just trying to make sure we leave no exhibition stone unturned,” says SXSW Film Festival Producer Matt Dentler. “We’re hoping to provide another avenue for expression, beyond the annual festival we do every year in Austin.”
“It’s our hope that we see a wide array of different media,” continues Dentler. “The beauty of this endeavor is that the sky is the limit and we don’t have any suggested criteria besides the time contraints.”
On June 28, 2004 SXSWeb will announce a list of finalists and showcase them on the SXSW Web site. A special jury, as well as the general public, will choose a series of winners in different categories. The winners will receive a series of prizes, including a slot as part of the 2005 SXSW Film Festival and hosting on the SXSW Web site for the rest of the year.
Submissions are now being accepted for SXSWeb.
