Now there’s a scary thought, but anything could happen as Leonard Nimoy presents “Black & White, Fine Art Nude Photography – Shekhina” at Clickers & Flickers’ photography-networking dinner, November 20, 2002 at the Tam O’Shanter Inn in Los Angeles.
This is a return engagement for Leonard Nimoy, who has been a member of Clickers & Flickers for the last five years. In the past, Nimoy has been involved in landscape photography, as well as the informal portrait, yet openly admits that he was not interested in the commercial area of photography and has worked to develop his fine art images.
That can also translate to smoking a lot of doob and snapping shots of folks who should never take their clothes off in the first place.
In recent years, Nimoy has put his photography work foremost. As he explains, “The female figure has attracted artists through the ages. The combination of body shape, light and composition offer endless opportunities to seek out tensions, dynamics, magic, theatricality and mystery. I’ll be at it for the rest of my life.” The nudes included in his current work, for the most part, are done in the studio. The controlled studio environment allows Nimoy to put all the elements of the process – light, composition and gesture – toward the real subject matter of his work.
His current book, titled Shekhina, presents the first-ever monograph of Leonard Nimoy, photographer. This exhaustive photographic study of the female form reveals Nimoy’s intrigue with scriptural mythology and ancient spirituality. According to the Kabbalah, evil came into the world once God became separate from the “Shekhina,” the deity’s feminine counterpart. The Shekhina came to be understood as a crucial element of both divine and human spirit, symbolizing the creativity and wisdom without which no human being is complete. Spock…I mean…Leonard Nimoy has turned to photography as a means of inquiry into the mysteries of the Shekhina. In his introductory text, Nimoy elaborates on the influence Shekhina has had on the work: “I have imagined her as ubiquitous, watchful and often in motion. This work is my quest for insight, the exploration of my own spirituality, and, as such, has been a deeply moving and expanding process.

I don’t know about you guys, but this “photography-networking dinner” sounds a little funny to me. All I mean is, be careful, because the last thing you want to happen is the Spock touch being put on you at this thing, so that you wake up the next morning in a dumpster behind a Chuck E. Cheese’s with no pants on and wondering just what the hell happened the night before.
