“Space Thing” is a dumbfounding and puzzling experimental film that displays an immense sense of zeal in being frenetic and chaotic and also never really makes a lick of sense. Though the film’s entirety is comprised of morbid and sometimes uneasy imagery, it instead wants to actually display the ability of the Manherringbone, which director Busko has a liking for. What’s Manherringbone? It’s the composer Bob Saunders who uses analog musical equipment in unintended ways which produce screeches, feedback, or anything else that could come out. “Space Thing” seems to have the right idea featuring the chaos of our minds through random imagery and stark black and white camerawork, but it doesn’t pay off in the end. Manherringbone. That’s a fun word to say.
