SIFF ANNOUNCES AWARD WINNERS

Concluding its 25-day run, the 27th Seattle International Film Festival closes this evening with the world premiere of Alan Rudolph’s “Investigating Sex,” followed by the Festival’s Closing Night Gala reception.
In a ceremony held earlier, the Golden Space Needle Award winners were announced. Determined by popular audience vote, awards in six different categories-including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Documentary and Best Short Film-were selected from over 200 feature films from 50 countries.
2001 Golden Space Needle Awards ^ Best Film: ^ Finder’s Fee (USA) directed by Jeff Probst (produced by Katy Wallin, Brad Van Arragon and Shawn Williamson)
Runners-up ^ 1st Place: Joint Security Area, Chan-wook Park (South Korea) ^ 2nd Place: Mortal Transfer, Jean-Jacques Beineix (France) ^ 3rd Place: Ghost World, Terry Zwigoff (USA) ^ 4th Place: The Closet, Francis Veber (France)
Best Director: ^ Tim Blake Nelson for O (USA)
Runners-up ^ 1st Place: Jean-Jacques Beineix, Mortal Transfer (France) ^ 2nd Place: Oxide Pang and Danny Pang, Bangkok: Dangerous (Thailand) ^ 3rd Place: Paul Cox, Innocence (Australia) ^ 4th Place: Jeff Probst, Finder’s Fee (USA)
Best Actor: ^ John Cameron Mitchell for Hedwig and the Angry Inch (USA)
Runners-up ^ 1st Place: Steve Buscemi, Ghost World (USA) ^ 2nd Place: Kang-ho Song, Foul King (South Korea) ^ 3rd Place: Charles “Bud” Tingwell, Innocence (Australia) ^ 4th Place: Daniel Auteuil, The Closet (France)
Best Actress: ^ Thora Birch for Ghost World (USA)
Runners-up ^ 1st Place: Gong Li, Breaking the Silence (China) ^ 2nd Place: Charlotte Rampling, Under the Sand (France) ^ 3rd Place: Leelee Sobieski, My First Mister (USA) ^ 4th Place: Judy Davis, Gaudi Afternoon (USA)
Best Documentary: ^ The Endurance: Shackleton’s Legendary Antarctic Expedition (USA) directed by George Butler
Runners-up ^ 1st Place: Southern Comfort, Kate Davis (USA) ^ 2nd Place: Scratch, Doug Pray (USA) ^ 3rd Place: If I Could, Patti Obrow White (USA) ^ 4th Place: Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures, Jan Harlan (Great Britian)
Best Short Film: ^ Boychick (USA) directed by Glen Gaylord

Also presented were the 27th Seattle International Film Festival’s juried awards: The New American Cinema Award and The New Director’s Showcase Award.

Special Jury Prize: ^ Viva Las Nowhere (USA) directed by Jason Bloom
New Director’s Showcase Award: ^ Together (Tillammans) (Sweden/ Italy) directed by Lukas Moodysson
Special Jury Prize: ^ Before the Storm (Fore Stormen)(Sweden)

In addition, jury prizes were awarded for the inaugural year of the On Location: Shooting in Seattle series. The winners are:
