RESFEST GETS SET TO LAUNCH IN LONDON

By Film Threat Staff | August 25, 2003

RESFEST 2003, the annual, global festival dedicated to showcasing innovative film, music, art, design and technology, arrives in the UK on October 16-19 at the Watershed Centre, Bristol and on November 13-16 at London’s National Film Theatre. Designed to support and inspire emerging creative talent, the festival kicks off each fall in the United States, and then journeys worldwide to over a dozen cities across six continents.
Highlights include a retrospective of the works of director MICHEL GONDRY – curated by Gondry, his selection includes music videos, ads and the premiere of his short film “Drumb and Drumber.” Rarities by SPIKE JONZE will be a selection of never-before-seen works including the world premiere of his music video “Torrance Rises.” Also included in the festival is a special presentation of Daft Punk & Leiji Matsumoto’s animated musical feature “Interstella 5555,” and Johan Kramer’s award-winning documentary “The Other Final,” the story of a remarkable football game played last year on the same day as the Word Cup Final between the two lowest-ranked national teams, Bhutan and Montserrat.
This year, festival producers received over 1,500 short film submissions, from which they created shorts programs ranging from “By Design,” showcasing experimental design films, to “Off the Map,” a program of inventive shorts about geography presented by National Geographic. The Festival will also include two music video programs: “Videos That Rock,” celebrating directors who translate guitar and vocal energy into another form, and “Cinema Electronica,” highlighting the best in electronic music videos of the past year.
