Slamdance is to begin a new venture in Poland designed to support local filmmaking talent. Fourteen Polish short and nine feature films will unreel this weekend, November 22-24, in the Southwestern city of Wroclaw. Following the direction of the annual Park City event, On The Road Poland is dovoted to first-time filmmakers who have made films on limited budgets. The winning best short and feature will screen at Slamdance Film Festival 2003 which is set for January 18-25.
“The clear purpose of On The Road Poland is to help several young Polish filmmakers get to Park City, see the mayhem and let them abandon their shyness forever”, said event organizer Przemyslaw Wojcieszek.
“As Slamdance’s festival support system continues to grow, so do our international networks and the ability to produce an event like On The Road Poland. Thanks to Przemyslaw Wojcieszek coming to Slamdance this year with his film “Louder Than Bombs” (2002 winner of Slamdance’s Best Cinematography Award sponsored by Kodak) he saw the type of collective filmmaking spirit he wanted to replicate in support of emerging talent in Poland” said Slamdance president Peter Baxter who will be present in Wroclaw.
