By Film Threat Staff | April 7, 2004

The 9th Annual Palm Beach International Film Festival, April 15-22, has announced this year’s film line-up. The announcement was made by PBIFF Executive Director Randi Emerman. The festival, which became competitive last year, has attracted a diverse selection of films, documentaries, and shorts, featuring 15 World Premiere Features and Documentaries, 4 U.S. Premieres and will proudly introduce 19 Florida Premieres to filmgoers!
“To celebrate this terrific film festival’s 9th year, we have put together a program of high-profile, quality films designed primarily to entertain, but also to enlighten and educate viewers, opening their eyes to the many talented, visionary filmmaking voices on display from all over the world. We were thrilled with the overwhelming response from filmmakers for this year’s festival and we look forward to meeting and working with them as they showcase their art,” said Emerman.
Opening Night kicks off with the Universal Pictures comedy “Connie and Carla,” starring Nia Vardalos and Toni Collette, directed by Michael Lembeck.
Closing Night features “A Slipping Down Life,” written and directed by Toni Kalem (directorial debut), and starring Lili Taylor, Guy Pearce and Sara Rue in this story about a timid young woman, Evie (Taylor), whose life consists of living with her widower father and working on a dead-end job. Evie’s quiet existence is shattered when she hears an interview with struggling musician Drumstrings Casey. She is fascinated with him and goes to the local roadhouse to see him perform. Seeing him in person, she becomes even more mesmerized by the handsome and brooding musician.
