NEW INDIES AT THE EGYPTIAN

By Film Threat Staff | June 16, 2005

In June & July the American Cinematheque’s THE ALTERNATIVE SCREEN: INDEPENDENT FILM SHOWCASE presents more LA Premieres and Sneak Previews of new North American Independent features. On Thursday, June 30th at 7:30 PM is the LA Premiere screening of THE TALENT GIVEN US, director Andrew Wagner’s comic tale of a family in crisis and the insane cross-country road trip the 70-year old parents take with their adult children to try to reconnect. The feature will be preceded by Rob Pearlstein’s short “Our Time Is Up”, a black comedy starring Kevin Pollack (HOSTAGE) as an arrogant therapist who changes his techniques when he learns that ‘his time’ might soon be up. Director Andrew Wagner will appear for discussion following the film along with actress Emily Wagner (“E.R.”) and other cast and crew members.

On Thursday, July 7th at 7:30 PM is a Sneak Preview of Bill Rose’s unbelieveably moving and insightful documentary on the immortality of youth, the artistic impulse and love, THE LOSS OF NAMELESS THINGS. The feature will be preceded by the short animated film “Andy” directed by Terence Healy. The film animates the life experiences of a real character actor and model who uses “what he’s got” rather than dashing good looks to shape a successful career in an appearance conscience industry. Directors Bill Rose and Terence Healy will speak following their respective screenings.
