By Film Threat Staff | June 3, 2004

The American Cinematheque in association with Cinecitta’ Holding, A.I.P. Film Italia and the Italian Film Commission presents CINEMA ITALIAN STYLE: NEW FILMS FROM ITALY (UNDER THE SIGN OF FELLINI), June 3 – 13, 2004.
This two-week showcase of the best and most challenging in new Italian filmmaking opens with “Italy On Film: La Bella Vita,” a celebration of the ongoing dialogue between American and Italian filmmakers hosted by Michael York, at the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
The body of the series kicks off at the Egyptian Theatre on June 4th with one of the most acclaimed Italian productions of the past decade, the 6-hour “LA MEGLIO GIOVENTU'” (BEST OF YOUTH) from director Marco Tullio Giordana (soon to be released by Miramax Films in the U.S.), a portrait of forty years in the life of one Italian family and the unbreakable bond between two brothers.
The series closes with the L.A. Premiere of “NON TI MUOVERE” (DON’T MOVE), a new drama from director/actor Sergio Castellitto, starring Spanish actress Penelope Cruz in what some are syaing is her finest performance. The series is comprised of 14 new Italian features, a short film series including director Nanni Moretti’s latest film, and in person appearances by actors Maya Sansa (“LA MEGLIO GIOVENTU'”), Silvio Muccino (“CHE NE SARA’ DI NOI & RICORDATI DI ME”) and Beppe Fiorello (“SALVO D’ACQUISTO”). Filmmakers are also scheduled to appear in person to discuss their films, including directors Giovanni Veronesi (“CHE NE SARA’ DI NOI”), Gabriele Muccino (“RICORDATI DI ME”), Edoardo Winspeare (“IL MIRACOLO”) and Salvatore Mereu (“BALLO A TRE PASSI”).
All screenings are at the newly renovated Lloyd E. Rigler Theatre at the historic Egyptian unless otherwise noted.
