MY DEER FRIEND

By Pete Vonder Haar | June 15, 2008

“My Deer Friend” is pretty much what it advertises, a short film about a young man named Glen and his best friend, a deer named Richard. The two enjoy a game of tag in the forest, but emotions run heavy as Mark reveals he’ll be going out with his father the next day for his first deer hunt. Knowing Glen to be an awkward and unpopular kid who has difficulties relating to his dad, Richard decides to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Once you get past the initial gag, “My Deer Friend” settles into an amusing groove. Richard’s deadpan delivery contrasts nicely with the often hysterical Glen, with everything working out, more or less, in the end.
