Maybe they’re going for alliteration. Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami will be presented with the Akira Kurosawa Award for Lifetime Achievement in Film Directing at the 43rd San Francisco International Film Festival, April 30.
Known for his Palm D’Or-winning “Taste of Cherry,” Kiarostami’s most recent film (“The Wind Will Carry Us”) will make it’s U.S. premiere at the festival, highlighting a four-film retrospective: “The Traveller” (1974), “Where Is The Friend’s Home?” (SFIFF 1993), “Close-Up” (SFIFF 1991) and “And Life Goes On…”SFIFF 1993).
The 43rd San Francisco International Film Festival runs April 20-May 4, 2000 at the AMC Kabuki 8 Theatres, as well as at the Castro Theatre, the Pacific Film Archive in Berkeley, Landmark’s Park Theatre in Menlo Park and the Rafael Film Center in San Rafael. Advance ticket packages and Festival passes go on sale beginning March 8. Individual tickets for San Francisco Film Society members will be available beginning March 28, with individual tickets for the general public available starting April 2.
