sputnik7.com and RES Media Group (RES), the producers of the acclaimed RESFEST touring film festival, have announced the launch of the team’s new film channel, broadcasting exclusive Web premieres of short and feature length films. Cinephiles can now tune into sputnik7.com for round-the-clock film fare cultivated by the RES team.
The partnership is actively pursuing content for online and offline exhibition, including Internet distribution through sputnik7.com, theatrical distribution through Palm Pictures, and DVD and VHS distribution through Palm’s audio-video distributor, Ryko Distribution. The films currently premiering on sputnik7.com lead the next wave in digital filmmaking, including Wood Technology in the Design of Structures by Eric Henry. Wood Technology is a winner of numerous awards, including Best Experimental Video at the 1998 Atlanta International Film Festival, 1st Prize in the Experimental Category at the 1998 Carolina Film and Video Festival, and Runner-Up for Best Experimental Video at the 1998 South by Southwest Film Festival.
Also premiering on the site are two shorts by Dave Foss: 47 HZ, an official selection at the 1999 Chicago Underground Film Festival, and Horned Gramma, official selection at the 2000 Spike & Mike Festival of Animation and 1998 Chicago Underground Film Festival.
RES is now accepting submissions for RESFEST 2000, its annual film festival promoting innovative films from filmmakers empowered by digital production tools. sputnik7.com is currently hosting an open submission “Best New Filmmaker” contest through June 2000. The winning filmmaker, to be announced during the RESFEST 2000 tour this September, will be awarded a Media 100 editing system and an exclusive Web premiere on sputnik7.com.
