GIRL BOSS GUERILLA (DVD)

Released as part of the Pinky Violence Collection, “Girl Boss
Guerilla” has its share of flaws. Most noticeable of those problems is the humor. It usually doesn’t work. When you watch a film about biker chicks who beat up some people and con others, you don’t want toilet jokes. Sure, the nudity and violence makes it easier to swallow the stupid moments, but it still leaves a bad taste in one’s mouth.

The movie’s plot isn’t complicated. Sachiko (Miki Sugimoto), the leader of the Shinjuku Red Helmet Gang, moves her and her crew into Kyoto and takes over a rival gang’s turf. They rip off a bunch of people and eventually end up pissing off the local yakuza. Throw in some stuff about a boxer and the yakuza head’s sister, Nami (Reiko Ike), and you have a story that promises more than it delivers.

If those god-awful attempts at humor were taken out, and a bit more
crime were thrown in, you’d have a classic which would rank up there with “Criminal Woman: Killing Melody.” Instead, you get something that is hard to stomach even for fans of this genre.
