GHOST WORLD THE MOVIE

By Film Threat Staff | July 27, 2000

Based on the amazing Dan Clowes’ comic “Ghost World”, the movie was co-written and directed by Terry Zwigoff who brought us the documentary “Crumb.” “Ghost World” is the story of Enid (Thora Birch) and Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson) who are best friends and high school misfits. They share a skewed view of the world and everyone they meet. When Enid meets Seymour (played by Steve Buscemi), he becomes her project and the bane of Rebecca’s existence. Seymour also diverts their attention from the ongoing object of their romantic fixation, Josh, played by Brad Renfro. “Ghost World” is one of the best indie comics ever and with Clowes, Zwigoff and this great cast, the movie already looks like it won’t suck. (Strangely, the film is also co-produced by John Malkovich.)
