FEARLESS TALES GENRE FEST PREMIERES HOOPER’S “TOOLBOX MURDERS”

By Film Threat Staff | March 10, 2004

Tobe Hooper’s remake of “The Toolbox Murders” will have its North American premiere at the Fearless Tales Genre Fest at the Victoria Theatre in San Francisco. The festival runs March 11-14.
There are bad apartments – rats, bad plumbing, crazy landlords — and then there’s the Lusman Building. Situated in the heart of old Hollywood, it’s now as forgotten as any 40s movie starlet. The beautiful façade has faded and the elegant carpeting is stained. Once a playground for the rich and famous, the Lusman is now a cheapo apartment building. Anyone unfortunate enough to live there just wants to leave.

But…can they? For the Lusman is home to a dark secret. The mysterious symbols throughout the building are more than just decoration – they’re black magic. Something evil lives deep in the building – something linked to the architecture itself, something that needs to keep killing in order to stay alive.

When Nell Burrows (Angela Bettis; May, Girl, Interrupted) moves into the Lusman with her husband Steven (Brent Roam; The Shield, Tremors 4) she quickly befriends Julia (Juliet Landau; Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ed Wood). When Julia goes missing, Nell knows something awful has happened. What she doesn’t realize is that searching for her friend will launch her on a nightmare journey and bring her face-to-face with pure evil.

If you lived here, you’d be dead by now.
Other films to screen at the festival include “Detour,” Killer Me, “Spider Baby,” “Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens,” Come Get Some and Blood Gnome.
