“Child Psychology” opens with a man (Justin) standing on the edge of a bridge, contemplating jumping to his death. Appropriately, the next scene takes place in a therapist’s office. It is quickly revealed that Justin began attempting suicide when he was 9 months old. Images of such attempts are communicated through Super 8-style flashbacks. It soon becomes painfully obvious that Justin’s mother has some major issues, but more importantly, she is super annoying, not to mention obnoxiously overbearing. Justin’s session eventually wraps up and leads to a rather creepy ending.
“Child Psychology” is an entertaining and darkly funny short film. It’s well written, directed, performed and edited. Several of the flashback images are so well shot and edited that it is even safe to say that the film has a few moments of brilliance.
