2012 OAK CLIFF FILM FESTIVAL GIVES A GLIMPSE OF INAUGURAL SCHEDULE AND EVENTS

The 2012 Oak Cliff Film Festival has announced a teaser of its inaugural schedule and events for the June 14-17, 2012 fest. From the official press release:

The Oak Cliff Film Festival, taking place at the legendary Texas Theatre, the Kessler Theater, the Bishop Arts “TeCo” Theater (formerly the Bluebird Theater), the Dallas Zoo, the Belmont Hotel, El Sibel Studio, The Turner House and Oil & Cotton during the week of June 14-17th, 2012 proudly announce the following films, events, and concerts (Full schedule to be announced May 14th):

  • Special screening of Love and a .45 (35mm) with Cast and Crew in attendance.
  • Outdoor screening at the Dallas Zoo of Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox.
  • Belmont Hotel Poolside screenings presented by Tuesday Night Trash.
  • Music video showcase at historic El Sibil, former studio of Frank Reaugh built in 1928.
  • Experimental “Cinema 16” shorts showcase and Amos Vogel tribute at Oil & Cotton.
  • Ghastly Love of Johnny X (35mm): a sci-fi musical!
  • Your Brother, Remember: a bizarre home video tribute to Kickboxer and Faces of Death.
  • Special Balloon Program: The Black Balloon (35mm) along with The Red Balloon (35mm).
  • The Comedy – Featuring Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim in a movie where they don’t play Tim and Eric!
  • The Ambassador – a genre-breaking, tragic doc comedy about the bizarre world of African diplomacy.
  • Filmmaking workshop at The Oak Cliff Cultural Center with Bradley Beesley, (Okie Noodling, Sweethearts of the Prison Rodeo, Fearless Freaks)
  • Live Music from New Fumes, Diamond Age, Night Game, Beau Jennings, Neeks, George Quartz, and a special live performance from My Education to the 1927 silent Murnau classic Sunrise (35mm)

Jason Reimer, Creative Director of the Texas Theatre and Co-Founder of the Oak Cliff Film Festival is excited about the eclectic mix of films, parties, and concerts. “For each day and night of the festival we wanted to pepper in a few interesting acts that we thought would pair nicely with the films.” Said Reimer. “The Sunrise live score is not to be missed.”

VIP All Access badges will officially go on sale May 1st 2012 with the launch of a Groupon deal. Guests with these badges will have unlimited access to all screenings and parties as well as be placed first in line for all films.

The Oak Cliff Foundation, fiscal sponsor of the Oak Cliff Film Festival, is also partnering with the North Texas Food Bank to help feed North Texans by contributing $5 per VIP All Access badge sold to the North Texas Food Bank. This initiative was coordinated by the festival planning team as a way of sharing the generosity of their sponsors with the surrounding community.

“The generosity of the Oak Cliff Foundation and the Oak Cliff community will fill the tables of countless North Texans and improve the lives of many more.” said Jan Pruitt, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank.

Premium Festival Sponsor, the Advocate, will be printing and delivering 50,000 festival inserts to individual homes across Dallas including residents of Oak Cliff and Lakewood.

Backed by the Oak Cliff Foundation – the Non Profit 5013C that owns the Texas Theatre and led by members of the Aviation Cinemas team who took over operations at the Texas Theatre in December of 2010, The Oak Cliff Film Festival will seek to showcase “brave and independent filmmaking of all stripes” from Oak Cliff, Dallas, Denton, Austin, and Fort Worth as well as nationally and internationally. The assembled festival planning team for the festival includes Aviation Cinemas, Inc. Partners Adam Donaghey, Barak Epstein, Jason Reimer, and Eric Steele who will coordinate programming along with seasoned festival consultant Blake Ethridge. Other team members include Festival Coordinator Carla Tschosik, Interactive Marketing Director Micah Phillips, Corporate Events Outreach Specialist Chris Gardner, and Oak Cliff Foundation Liaison Andrew Snow.
