The American Southwest gets its splendid vision splendor with the gorgeous all-over music video Windsong, directed by Loren Waters for the song by artist Kalyn Fay. Fay appears sprawled in the grass with a giant projection screen set up behind her. She sings about how, despite the day being hot, she cannot afford to turn the AC on. Two stunning African-American cowgirls (Jada Blanton), (Tyia Fullbright), with bedazzled eyelids, ride their horse (Rosa The Horse) through a lush landscape. The striking Fay appears in several gorgeous dresses in front of what looks like a Chateau in France, but is actually a Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

With Windsong, making Oklahoma look downright exotic is an achievement in itself. Director Waters sets up these magnificent visual compositions for the most perfect cowgirl portraits yet. The stages she sets in the frame for Fay to perform upon are beyond description, literally some of the most breathtaking backgrounds any singer could ask for. And Fay’s intense beauty is more than a match for the exquisite surroundings. The excellent costumes by Shanna Paddock accentuate her curvy, tattooed charm to desire levels fitting of a star on the rise.

The song may best be described as ethereal country. Fay writes these fantastic, gritty lyrics that trade on the mundane, making them instantly relatable. But then she is able to elevate the whole thing to the astral plane, making the normal seem extraordinary. It is a powerful style that is the perfect antidote to the hair metal country that rules with an iron Jack Daniels carnival mirror these days. Just like back in the early 80s, it took me just one awesome music video to go from unfamiliar to a fan with Fay’s work. Windsong will catch your eye, catch your ear, and take them both somewhere wonderful.
