The most interesting aspect of The Riot Act is that this melancholy drama is based on a true story that haunts the historic King Opera House in Van Buren, Arkansas. Murder, theatrics, romance, and revenge collide in this tragic turn-of-the-century narrative.

Two years after the murder, the King Opera House hosts a Vaudeville troupe from the East.”

The influential Dr. Willard Pearrow (Brett Cullen) maintains control over his patients and patrons, making it clear that his will must be done. His daring daughter Allye (Lauren Sweetser) rebels against his wishes and runs off with her lover, a traveling actor, in the dark of night. As expected, Willard shoots the actor in an attempt to protect his daughter. As a result, he pushes Allye further away and lives with the guilt of this secret.

Two years after the murder, the King Opera House hosts a Vaudeville troupe from the East. It is no surprise to see that Allye has built a new life for herself as a performer.
