The Apocalypse Box

The Apocalypse Box brings together this cross-section of English society, showing shifts in their lives and what brought them to this point. A couple of characters exchange words over the distinction between a patriot or a bigot. Cyril, the angry racist, is then revealed to be grieving over the death of his wife due to misdiagnoses by medical professionals of color. One wonders why there has to be a reason given for prejudice such as a death: perhaps an a*s is just an a*s.

“…themes of bitter cruelty, domestic hate, and political violence …”

Bringing together elements such as those found in tales like The Monkey’s Paw, The Purge franchise, The Twilight Zone episode Button, Button, and The Wishmaster series, the box can grant wishes. But it will come as no surprise that like in so many other films, things often don’t play out the way the wish maker expects. The film features well-executed practical gore for the consequences, no matter how outlandish the reason may seem. In the shattering climax, even events in the world are influenced by the supernatural power of the box.

The Apocalypse Box is more of a thriller than a horror film as the first part of the picture sets up the details of the political climate. The end perhaps does not justify the means. This is more of a satire along the lines of Punch and Judy with themes of bitter cruelty, domestic hate, and political violence, offering moments of reflection if you are not aware that these views ring true for many real people.
