The less I say about Ali Matlock’s short film, Shadows of the Dust, the better. So let me just say prepare you for a tight little sci-fi bender with a twist at the end.
Charles (Daniel Rios Jr.) and Terri (Brie Covington) are driving home down a dark forest road. Their favorite music is interrupted by an emergency warning that Comet Floyd is flying overhead and that it’s so close that you should not look directly into its bright light. As the comet passes overhead, Terri (who’s driving) almost hits a stranger on the side of the road. Their car crashes, and the two wake up with the car sporting a flat tire. As Charles tries to fix the tire, he is approached by the stranger.
“…interrupted by an emergency warning that Comet Floyd is flying overhead…”
From a filmmaking standpoint, Shadows of the Dust is low-budget sci-fi, but the resourceful director Matlock pulls off a few “car stunts” that require no danger in any form and no insurance certificate.
Shadows of the Dust takes us straight into Twilight Zone territory and weaves a solid story together with a twist at the end that will make you want to watch the film again and again.
