Pizza Boy Rick, directed and written by Jason Parks, is a one-of-a-kind action-thriller that stands out in a world of action blockbusters. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, guessing what crazy plot twist will happen next!

Rick (Jason Park) has been having trouble feeling emotions ever since his grandmother’s death. He enrolls in an acting class to better connect with emotions. The acting class teacher (Doc Watson) assigns him the task of playing a pizza boy in real life. Rick takes the job at a seemingly typical pizza shop. His night is going smoothly until he finds a dying man (Christopher Deon), who gives him a note to go on a mission before midnight.

Rick arrives in an empty parking lot and finds a phone. He receives a phone call from a mysterious man who gives him three options. Option one is to save a man’s life, but someone else will die. Option two is to save a pregnant woman, but he will die. Option three entails taking a suitcase with a million dollars. Rick chooses option one, yet there’s a catch. Even though the man’s life has been saved, the President of the United States ends up being assassinated. Rick quickly realizes nothing is what it seems.

“…he finds a dying man, who gives him a note to go on a mission before midnight.”

The following morning, he is sick and unable to deliver pizza. He then receives a phone call from the mysterious man, where he learns that the phone in the parking lot was laced with an exotic bioweapon. It is now up to Rick to end this cycle where people are recruited in this deranged game of pizza delivery and death.

How can I describe my experience watching this film? At first, it seemed like a hybrid between Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver and the Fast and Furious franchise. It had humor, eccentric urban characters, and a fish-out-of-water storyline. I was expecting a quirky action movie, but then it became this crazy suspense film! Kudos to Jason Park for creating a bizarre action-thriller. It was suspenseful not to know what genre would be thrown in next. It honestly reminds me of classic B movies where genres would switch partway through the film.

Park allows his cast to have fun with their performances, which adds to the film’s entertainment value. Hopefully, we get a sequel to Pizza Boy Rick. It would be awesome to learn more about the origins of those plot twists. Check this film out if you love the bonkers energy of Deadpool & Wolverine.
