Some directors can rise above meager budgets, but Reale isn’t one of them. In every frame of Necropath, it is clear that his resources did not match his ambition. Instead of hordes of zombies taking over the streets, we have people running terrified from two or three shambling extras in grey makeup. These zombies are somehow less frightening than Scrag because they can only move at a leisurely pace.

The press material promises a topical story touching on the issues of today. I mean… maybe? There is a pandemic. We have a pandemic. There is something about a pharmaceutical company. We have pharmaceutical companies. But it feels like the people who wrote the promotional material didn’t actually watch the movie.

“…a jumbled mess of good ideas that never really come together…”

And then there is the title, Necropath. Honestly, I spent too much time mulling over what that word might mean and how it connects to the, I don’t want to stay “story,” maybe loosely connected images. But that will only be a problem if you’re an over-thinking pedantic a$$ like myself.

Of course, it’s not all bleak. The imagery is actually decent. If one turns down the volume and plays some random death metal, Necropath actually becomes watchable. This trick works best in the first act of the film. One could well imagine this being played in the background at a death metal club.

Necropath is a jumbled mess of good ideas that never really come together into a cohesive whole. It is 90 minutes of mindless gore and broken promises. It is not the worst film I’ve ever seen, but it’s in the top 20.
