There’s something almost nostalgic about watching writer/director Audie Harrison’s Invisible Baby — a short film about a young woman who wakes up one night to care for a baby that only she can see, and a man whose secret turns out to be stranger than hers.
Trixie (Christine Moore) is jolted awake in the middle of the night by a crying baby. She fumbles for some batteries, tests them with her tongue, and powers up a pair of homemade goggles before shuffling over to the crib. The crib is empty — at least to the naked eye. To Trixie, the baby is very much there, wailing away, just invisible. The next day, Griff (Chuck Raucci), her teacher and lover, arrives for a clandestine meeting without the knowledge of his wife. As Griff turns up the sexual tension by mentioning his credentials, Trixie reveals that she had a baby, it is his, and it is invisible.

Written and directed by Audie Harrison, Invisible Baby is an indie homage to the classic black-and-white horror films of long ago. Chuck Raucci brilliantly plays the almost evil scientist, if you will, who is more into him and his work than those he supposedly loves. Christine Moore nails the ’40s housewife who blindly embraces the man she loves and is now connected with him through a baby. Now add an ending that beautifully ties everything together.
Invisible Baby is a reminder of a bygone time, when monster movies were magic. Harrison modernizes it with a clever idea and two committed performances, pulling off something genuinely fun.
