DANCES WITH FILMS 2021 REVIEW! Garage is a 12-minute short film based on the actual experiences of director-writer Aaron Sanders dealing with untreated childhood trauma. Joshua (Adam Kaufman) was abducted as a child and has grown up with PTSD that causes him to re-live the horror of that event on a constant basis. As a result, he finds himself over and over again at the garage where he was molested.
“…abducted as a child…grown up with PTSD that causes him to re-live the horror…”
The well-known tropes of cinematic horror are a perfect framework to express the experience of being stuck in that one horrific moment of life. This is one of the worst real horrors imaginable. Kaufman delivers a wrenching performance as a man lost in time, unable to focus on the present. Making Garage as a short was the right choice, as a longer version would be unbearable.
Garage screened at the 2021 Dances With Films.
