PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL SHORTFEST 2026 REVIEW! Love knows no bounds. This is exemplified by filmmakers Riley Engemoen and Liz Moskowitz’s short film Forcefield of Love, which details the passionate love of Dan and Doris, an interracial couple in their 70’s who love to live life to the fullest. They wear colorful leopard print outfits, go out dancing, have a strong libido, and sometimes both wear blinking neon glasses. In their town of Austin, they get stopped by a couple of ladies who want to take a picture because they believe that the couple is celebrities or in a band.
“It’s heartwarming to see what is only associated with ‘young love’ for this cute couple in their twilight years.”
Doris and Dan are both widows who lost their long-time partners during the pandemic. Now they’re scared of losing each other after finding love again, because they know how devastating that can be. Dan says that he suffered so much heartbreak after his first wife passed that he lost his peripheral vision.
It’s heartwarming to see what is only associated with “young love” for this cute couple in their twilight years. They have such eccentric outfits and dance moves that they genuinely seem like rock stars. The filmmakers intensify that overall vibe with their handheld camerawork, animation, and music to authentically capture the lifestyle.
Dan and Doris prove that you don’t have to grow old in your hearts, and that love can flourish for as long as there is life.
