DJ Hound Dog is a player, and while he’s messing around with Kat and Tai, he’s also going after two other women. It’s just too easy for this guy, but the sex is really hot… softcore hot. He snaps his fingers like the Fonz, and he’s naked and getting it on. But too much of a good thing is ultimately too much, and Hound Dog tragically loses them all.

I’ll start by saying DJ Hound Dog tells an exciting story about the clubbing lifestyle but is riddled with problems. It moves in a good direction with the best of intentions and falls short. I appreciated how the story explored DJ Hound Dog’s hedonistic lifestyle. It’s crazy insane and an enviable life. There’s a great deal of sex and nudity, and it’s very hot, in my opinion. I’ll also add the original music is pretty good, and Jacobs is compelling as the lead. What I wanted to see was how this lifestyle influenced his music and art.

“…an exciting story about the clubbing lifestyle…”

The biggest problem is how the story and film overall lacked depth. We essentially follow Hound Dog around on little adventures. He meets women, takes them home, goes to clubs, plays music, and talks to his peers. Other than the fact that he seems cool, I had a hard time connecting with the character. We see him do things but never understand why or how these experiences shape his character.

Very little is revealed about his past, his struggles, his weaknesses—anything that humanizes him and makes him relatable. Yes, he’s caught in a threesome, works late hours, spends time in a recording studio, but why is he like this? It’s almost like following a person around from a distance. We see what he does every day, but why should we care?

DJ Hound Dog tells a good story about an emerging DJ looking for his break and the women he leaves along the way. While I wanted to get right into the middle of the action, I felt like I was a wallflower at a nightclub watching the cool stuff happen from a distance.
