PALM SPRINGS INTERNATIONAL SHORTFEST 2025 REVIEW! Young love can feel quite intense because hormones are raging, and it’s the first time that you’re feeling such a powerful emotion. Writer-director Greta Díaz Moreau’s Crazy for You (Loquita Por Ti) is set in Spain during the period when concerns about Y2K were widespread.

The film follows 16-year-old Alma (Irene Balmes), who has a crush on the village heartthrob, José (Jon López). He’s a bullfighter, and Alma watches him intently as he trains, until a couple of other girls start to tease her. Alma is so distracted that she gets struck by a dirty nail, but her grandma helps her clean and bandage it. The grandma tells stories about how she was pretty and young once, too. Alma is hypnotized watching José dodge a bull until he pulls one of the rival girls into the pit with him. Alma jumps into the bull ring instead to get José’s attention, but then she runs off scared. He chases her, telling her how dangerous that was.

Alma is hypnotized watching José dodge a bull until he pulls one of the rival girls into the pit with him.”

Balmes is striking in the red dress that she wears throughout. You really believe she has a schoolgirl crush on José.  López sells that due to his role’s buffness and popularity, he doesn’t care much one way or the other about Alma, or seemingly anyone that doesn’t bend to his ways.

Stories like Crazy for You (Loquita Por Ti) about young passion are fun because it’s such a vivid time in life. The cast and crew bring this unrequited love story to life perfectly, with a satisfying ending to boot.
