Another Time

That’s right, Eric decides to travel back in time and meet Julia before she has the chance to fall in love with Adam. This is where time travel stories usually get more exciting. Finding a way to go back into the past should be an adventure in and of itself. In this case, it is a snoozefest.

Eric tracks down a disgraced scientist, Dr. Joseph Goyer (Alan Pietruszewski), whose attempts to prove his time travel theory literally blew up in his face. Together, they find a way to make his time travel theory work and finish what he started years ago. Even if I could understand all of the mumbo-jumbo discussed during their elaborate brainstorming sessions, I would still have been bored. Dr. Goyer offers some important life lessons in between all the theorem scribbling, but it still isn’t exciting enough to balance things out.

“…spends a chunk of the film giving viewers an unnecessary, unwanted, and mind-numbing quantum physics lesson.”

Unfortunately, Another Time spends a chunk of the film giving viewers an unnecessary, unwanted, and mind-numbing quantum physics lesson. Quite frankly, it spoils all the romance and fun. Thankfully, Eric’s encounter with Ally (Arielle Kebbel), a local bartender who dreamed of adventure and now finds herself stuck in a hopeless rut, offers a refreshing break from the monotonous physics babble. In fact, their soul-searching conversations reveal the true meaning behind Eric’s journey.

Ultimately, Another Time is about taking risks, being honest with yourself, and seizing second chances. Yet, the film’s strict adherence to plausible science means that it only scratches the surface of its themes.
