Hey, it’s Tom Ha… I mean, Mr. Rogers

Inspired by the article “Can You Say…Hero?” by Tom Junod, the “Untitled Mr. Rogers/Tom Hanks Project” (which really does not have a ring to it) is in production and we have our first photo of Tom as Fred Rogers. And it seems like he fits really nicely into that sweater. We really look forward to seeing Tom play Fred in the film. If you’d like to get a sense of what this biopic might be like, we highly recommend listening to our interview with the director of the documentary about Fred Rogers, Won’t You Be My Neighbor, on the Film Threat Podcast.

Here’s a bit more info about this “Untitled” project from the official press release. “Two-time Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks portrays Mister Rogers in Untitled Mr. Rogers/ Tom Hanks Project, a timely story of kindness triumphing over cynicism, based on the true story of a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod. After a jaded magazine writer (Emmy winner Matthew Rhys) is assigned a profile of Fred Rogers, he overcomes his skepticism, learning about empathy, kindness, and decency from America’s most beloved neighbor.”

The untitled film, directed by Marielle Heller and written by Noah Harpster & Micah Fitzerman-Blue, is expected to hit theaters sometime in October 2019.
