Elizabeth Blue Takes On Life with Mental Illness

By Chris Gore | September 13, 2017

Vincent Sabella’s Elizabeth Blue explores the stigma and the challenges of living with schizophrenia.

The film stars Anna Schafer as Elizabeth, a woman recently released from a psychiatric hospital, as she navigates re-engaging with her life. She faces daily struggles in recovering and adapting to her illness in relationships with her fiancé and her unsympathetic mother. Schizophrenia remains one of the most difficult mental illnesses to diagnose and treat, and is widely misunderstood and stigmatized. This is made worse by the fact that recovery and management of the disease is different for everyone who suffers from it and must be tailored to each patient.  The script is inspired by director Sabella’s own mental health troubles. He has drawn on his own life experiences to inform several of his film projects. Look for a full review of Elizabeth Blue here soon.

Elizabeth Blue opens in select theaters September 22.
