What was it like working with the cast because it’s a small yet wonderful group and I imagine you guys must have got pretty close. Also, how would you describe Mike Gan’s directing style? I know this is his first feature.
Yeah, we didn’t really have a lot of time and it was sort of extreme and I think that because of that, on film sets, you form a little family and that was really beautiful. Suki (Waterhouse) and Josh (Hutcherson) were really there most of the time and they’re great actors and wonderful people. It was a really great place to play with them. We were shooting a tight schedule so there really wasn’t a lot of free time on set but it definitely felt really safe and connected, they let people hang out while we were shooting so that was great. Mike’s a big part of that, too. He’s a great director with a clear vision. He’s a very collaborative director which is something I really love. He was really in it with the actors. He was really up for anything and being a part of it. It was really nice to be out there and try and be a part of the vision and to give him what he needed to tell the story. He was always up for ideas and trying new things so it felt really safe to work with him.

“…be a part of the vision and to give him what he needed to tell the story.”

Well, I really loved the movie. The pace was just so good and it’s such a fun film. What are you working on next?
Firstly thank you, I’m glad to hear that and then yeah I have a film coming out called I Am Woman which is about Helen Reddy’s life and her hit song, “I Am Woman.” It’s a story of her life and that song and her rise to fame in the ’70s and that was an extraordinary experience. I’m really excited about that coming out. Just learning about Helen Reddy and who she was as a person has made such a big impact on me as a person and a woman and if the story does even half of what it’s done for me for other people, I will be happy. Outside of that, I’ve been developing some of my own projects, I’ve been writing a lot at the moment and that’s been a great thing to get my head into as well.

Well thank you so much, I’m really looking forward to seeing I Am Woman. I really enjoyed Burn and can’t wait to see what you’re up to in the future.
