Oh yeah, I’m sorry, I got lost there for a minute. Go ahead and tell us!
Rehmeier: One of them, well it was also just to cut, but the arcade. I had a lot of fun. I know it’s just a montage but it was fun to find little things in there, like little presents, in post. I still think the basement was my favorite part to shoot. It was the most stressful part of the film for me to shoot because I would have like to have done that scene probably over two days, in parts, not breaking up the scene itself but just the different aspects of it, like everything with him revealing himself and then recording the song. You don’t get that on a smaller film so just making do and cramming it all in. That part was memorable to me to see if we could pull it off and I feel like when we get to that part of the film it’s just the most emotional part for me.
Adam, do you have any advice for fledgling filmmakers in general?
Rehmeier: It’s always the same advice, too. Don’t be a sh*thead. Be a good person. If you want to get into the business–
Skeggs: It’s a small world.
Rehmeier: It’s a small world, and it’s a small scene, and there’s no real point to being a sh*thead, so be nice to the crew and be nice to cast and just—
Gallner: Be nice!
Rehmeier: Do the work! My other advice is do the work, whatever your craft is, master it, do the work.
“Don’t be a sh*thead. Be a good person…”
Yeah, you told me that the other day. I’m writing a screenplay and he told me “Just do it.”
Gallner: Yeah!
Skeggs: Just do it! NIKE!
Do you guys have any advice for actors that are trying to get into the business?
Skeggs: I give the exact same advice, and my only amendment is: Be on time.
Gallner: Yeah.
Rehmeier: Hell yeah.
Skeggs: Those three things: Be good to work with, be good at your job, and be on time.
Rehmeier: Know your sides. Know your lines for the day. It’s the most basic thing. Because if you know your lines and you have a great attitude, it’s so easy to modify and tweak things.
Do people not know their lines?
Skeggs: Yes.
Gallner: It’s just about being ready when the opportunity arises. If you’re not prepared, it falls apart.
After this, there was more conversation, but you will have to just imagine how great our conversation about my boyfriend’s D&D game and be happy with this for the time being. And please, any opportunity you may have to do so, go check out Dinner In America.
