Love a movie with an exciting heist theme? You’re not alone! Considering most heist movies do well at the box office, clearly this is one motion picture genre that has a dedicated fan base.

Heist films have been around since the dawn of Hollywood and have never ceased in popularity. From the planning montage, to the inevitable need for the thieves to change and improvise plans at the last minute, to the high-speed car chase, these movies have continued to thrill audiences for generations.

High off the adrenaline of watching these movies, it’s not surprising that many people enjoy feeding their inner “criminal” by immersing themselves in heist-themed games, such as the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto V from Rockstar Games, and Overkill Software’s PayDay 2.

Heist games are so popular, in fact, they extend beyond consoles and mobile games. For instance, this is also a favourite theme among slots games, with a prime example being Microgaming’s Break da Bank Again at OJO Casino. Plus, there are even heist themed escape room games in London, like Enigma Quests’ The Million Pound Heist. Point being, there’s plenty of ways to live out your fantasies of being an epic thief!

With that in mind, here are five of the latest must-see heist films that will no-doubt inspire you to immerse yourself in some heist gaming action after you see them.

Baby Driver (2017)

Baby is a young getaway car driver who is coerced into working for a crime boss and his crazy band of criminals. He finds himself involved in a heist that is pretty much doomed for failure and also gets caught up in a romance with a sweet diner waitress to further complicate matters. The movie stands out from the crowd for its unique use of music that is heavily present throughout the film due to Baby suffering from Tinnitus and wanting to drown out the constant ringing in his ears.

Logan Lucky (2017)

What happens when self-proclaimed – yet clever – hillbillies decide to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race in North Carolina? You get this heist comedy film. Lucky Logan follows the Logan family, who hatch a plan to rob the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Hilarity ensues when the family of bandits must complete their nefarious deed without getting caught by the FBI.

Ocean’s Eight (2018)

A continuation and spin-off rom Steven Soderbergh’s incredibly popular Ocean’s trilogy, Ocean’s Eight features a star-studded all-female ensemble cast. It tells the story of a group of women who plan a sophisticated heist of the Met Gala in New York City. The leader of the criminal group is Debbie Ocean, younger sister to Danny Ocean. Debbie wants to steal the Toussaint, a Cartier necklace worth $150 million.

Den of Thieves (2018)

There’s nothing like watching a great heist movie that’s all about a group of thieves trying to pull off the impossible job. That’s what you get in Den of Thieves, a gritty crime film that takes you on a journey with an elite unit of LA County Sheriff Deputies, who seek to stop the state’s most successful gang of bank robbers from robbing the Federal Reserve Bank in LA.

King of Thieves (2018)

The most recently released heist movie on this list is based on true events. More specifically, King of Thieves is based on the Hatton Garden heist, which occurred in April 2015. The infamous Hatton Garden safe deposit burglary is considered to be the “largest burglary in English legal history.” The movie follows a crew of retired criminals – all elderly men – who decide to pull off one last heist in London’s jewelry district. However, the plan goes awry when greed comes into play.

Feel like fulfilling your bank-robbing, car-stealing, gold-nabbing, diamond-snatching fantasies, yet? Check out these latest must-see heist films that are sure to thrill your inner gaming criminal.
