A neon walk sign flashes “Wait” in close-up. Strings of icicle Christmas lights hang from a roof, swaying slightly in the wind. Block after block of traffic signals blink in tandem. A dozen black-and-white shots of empty urban scenes such as these are edited together randomly then re-edited in ever-quickening patterns, as shrill electronic soundscapes whine away. A more coherent and imaginative critique on our de-humanized, consumer-based society has been produced in every undergrad Film Foundations class of the last half century.
