Just because you have a DV camera doesn’t mean you can actually use it. Maybe “The Man with a DV Cam” is intended as a send-up of pretentious art-school blather, but since it’s not funny it’s hard to tell if it’s parody. James O’Sullivan plays Lindsay Farnsworth, who wants to create truth like no filmmaker ever has. (At one point, he actually asks “What is art?”) To this end, the guy runs around in a flowery blue dress. There are many pretty pictures, very well composed and shot. It’s clear that the filmmaking team does have talent. But this film is rather self-indulgent and pointless, a very long 10 minutes. Next time, better to be a Man with a Script.
