The Village Voice may call master thespian Willen Dafoe “a pallidly beautiful embodiment of pure evil,” but all you really need to know is that Dafoe is one of the most talented, and eerily convincing, actors working today.
Several Dafoe films, including the classics “Platoon” and “The Last Temptation of Christ,” will receive a special screening this weekend thanks to the American Cinematheque’s series “The Pretender: An In-Person Tribute to Willem Dafoe”. The event will run from [ Friday, December 15th ] to [ Monday, December 17th, 2000 ] .
Opening Night looks to be the biggest Dafoe event, with an exclusive premiere of Dafoe’s latest, the horrific “Shadow of the Vampire,” leading into a cast and crew-included party in the Egyptian Theatre’s courtyard. Other films screening throughout the weekend include “Platoon,” “The Loveless,” “Streets of Fire,” “The Last Temptation of Christ,” “Triumph of the Spirit,” “To Live and Die in L.A.” and “Light Sleeper,” with the actor scheduled to speak at several shows.
