The Waterfront Film Festival, June 9-12, has announced this year’s program of films, including:
MARCH OF THE PENGUINS – Follows the treacherous journey of a group of loveable penguins as they march to find their mates. An accomplishment in filmmaking for a crew that endured the Antarctic winter for 13 months to capture never-before filmed footage of this incredible adventure!
RAISING GENUIS – Golden Globe and two-time Emmy Nominee Wendie Malick (Nina Van Horn of NBC’s hit comedy “Just Shoot Me”) stars in this screwball comedy about a perfect PTA mom and her socially inept family of obsessive compulsives. Ms. Malick in attendance!
GRIZZLY MAN – Be the first in the Midwest to see this critically acclaimed true story! After Timothy Treadwell and partner Amie Huguenard are devoured by a grizzly bear, video footage of their journey into the Alaskan wilderness to live safely among the grizzly bears is discovered. Famed director Werner Herzog pieces together Treadwell’s footage to tell the tale of this intriguing, infuriating and perhaps even tragic figure, right up until his final moments. (Screened at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival)
MARILYN HOTCHKISS BALLROOM DANCING & CHARM SCHOOL – A lost truck driver happens upon a tragic car accident and urgently attempts to comfort the dying victim (brilliantly portrayed by John Goodman) who struggles with his last breaths to disclose his planned reunion of a meeting with his lost childhood love. Suddenly, the dying man’s dream becomes another man’s destiny. (Cast also includes Academy Award Winner Marisa Tomei, Mary Steenburgen, Donnie Wahlberg and Sean Astin; Screened at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival) Director and some cast in attendance!
MURDERBALL – This inspiring true story follows the wheelchair-confined athletes of Team USA as they prepare to win the gold medal at the highly competitive Paralympics. Murderball (aka quad rugby) combines the finesse of soccer with the bone-jarring collisions of a demolition derby. Like an all-access pass into the locker rooms, bedrooms and lives of these men, this film chronicles their unimaginable obstacles to become world-class athletes. (Winner, Audience Award – 2005 Sundance Film Festival)
ME AND YOU AND EVERYONE WE KNOW – An award-winning original comedy from the acclaimed multimedia performance artist, Miranda July. Boundaries are pushed as a lonely shoe salesman reaches out to connect with others in a weirdo world where everyone has their own set of modern day peculiar problems. (Award Winner, 2005 Sundance Film Festival; Award Winner, 2005 Cannes Film Festival)
THE OUTSIDER – We follow Hollywood icon and legendary writer/director James Toback through the insane process of making his recent thriller “When Will I Be Loved” starring Neve Campbell. With appearances by Woody Allen, Robert Downey, Jr., Brooke Shields and a slew of others, this documentary chronicles all phases as Toback shoots his movie in 12 days without a script and battles to get it distributed. (Screened at Robert DeNiro’s 2005 Tribeca Film Festival) Oscar nominee James Toback in attendance!
