TUBE FEST DEBUTS

By Film Threat Staff | August 16, 2000

The inaugural Tube Film Festival, an original festival blend of film and extreme sports, will be held on August 20 and 21 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in conjunction with the 2000 X Games in San Francisco, California.
The festival’s focus is on film about, for, and concerned with the newer wave of sports known as extreme or adventure…works slated to appear include a base-jumping film from Norway entitled “First Base” and Jordan Walker Pearlman’s “Snow Taxi,” a look at mountain life from a snowboarder’s perspective. Other sports with representative flicks include motorcross, skateboarding, and sky diving, amongst many others.
Will the next Spike Jonze be discovered and hurtled from a life of Super 8 films of his best friend trying to ollie over a milk crate to glitzy international fame? Maybe. Go to [ www.expn.com ] to check out what the media is calling extreme these days, plus Fest news and online voting.
