The seventh annual Online Film Critics Society Awards, honoring the year’s finest achievements in motion pictures, will be announced in New York on Monday, January 5, 2004. The time and venue for the award announcement will be determined later in the year.
The awards will be voted on by the membership of the Online Film Critics Society, the international professional association of Internet-based cinema journalists. The OFCS membership spans the U.S., Canada, Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Australia/New Zealand, with journalists representing many of the most important online film resources including Salon, Slate, TV Guide Online, IndieWire, Netflix, Film Threat, eFilmCritic.com and the Internet Movie Database.
The seventh annual awards will be determined in two waves. OFCS writers will put forth candidates for the year’s awards ballot in the period between December 19 and December 27. The ballot for the year’s nominees will be announced on December 28 and the OFCS writers will vote on this ballot between that date and January 4.
There are 14 categories guaranteed on this year’s award slate: Picture, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Screenplay (original), Screenplay (adapted from another source), Cinematography, Original Music Score, Breakthrough Performance, Breakthrough Filmmaker, Documentary, and Foreign-Language (Non-English) Film. The OFCS membership will also determine in the balloting process whether to continue or jettison five additional categories from last year’s ballot: Animated Feature, Visual Effects, Art Direction, Costume Design and Sound.
